I started building my lamps without knowing if I would ever sell them. Immediately, success came, sudden and unexpected. I didn't even know how to mass-produce them. That's how Catellani & Smith was born. Almost by chance. Logan Smith, the one we led people to believe was a London architect in the early years, was actually the name of my horse during those years. It was a way not to focus everything on me, to give myself credibility, but also to start a journey, never interrupted, marked by continuous and spontaneous irony. I like to downplay my creations; after all, they are nothing more than lamps. But then I dedicate total commitment to them, in terms of research, attention, and expression. I demand that everyone who works with me does the same. It's a matter of respect for those who believed in us, for those who are moved by our products. I'm not a designer, I'm not an artist. I don't want to be. I'm someone who does what he enjoys. Then, others happen to enjoy it too.
Each lamp is given the time it takes to make a well-crafted lamp. Because 'beautiful' is subjective, but 'perfect' is not.
